Base64 Decode - Base64 to Text
Paste Base64 and read the original text. The decoder accepts the forgiving input real life produces - line breaks, spaces, missing = padding, URL-safe characters - and tells you exactly where an invalid character is. If the data turns out to be an image, PDF or ZIP, it offers to open it in the file decoder.
How to use the Base64 to Text tool
- Paste the Base64 string into the Input box.
- Read the decoded text on the right. Change the character set if letters look wrong.
- If the result is a file (image, PDF ...), click the suggestion to preview and download it.
Questions and answers
Why does my decoded text show strange characters?
The text was probably encoded with another character set. Try UTF-16LE (Windows) or Windows-874 / TIS-620 (older Thai systems). If it still looks wrong, the data is a file, not text - open it in Base64 to File.
What does "invalid character" mean?
Base64 only uses A-Z, a-z, 0-9, +, / and = (or - and _ in URL-safe Base64). Anything else, such as a quote or a % sign copied by accident, cannot be decoded. The tool shows its position so you can fix it.
Do I need the = signs at the end?
No. The = signs are padding. This decoder adds missing padding by itself.
Is my data uploaded to a server?
No. Every conversion on this page runs inside your browser with JavaScript. Your text and files never leave your computer, which is why it also works for private keys, contracts and photos.
Is the tool free?
Yes, free without sign-up and without limits other than your computer's memory. The site is paid for by the small ads on the left and at the bottom.
